ôMature,ö ôresponsibleö and ôan excellent studentö are just a few words used to describe Abraham Lincoln High School senior Jessica Bastian. She has been named to the honor throughout her high school career and is currently ranked 15th in her class. She was a recipient of the Hispanic Annual Salute Scholarship. At school, she is a member of several school organizations including the softball team, Link Crew and the YESS Institute. With a 3.99 GPA, Bastian, who is bilingual, has applied to Colorado State University-Pueblo, Metropolitan State College of Denver and New Mexico Highlands University.

Through the YESS Institute, Bastian mentors underclassmen students. She also provides assistance to parents taking classes to improve their computer and English skills. Bastian also spent her time being a role model for incoming freshmen as a Link Leader where part of her duties were to introduce these students to the high school environment.
Why is community involvement important?
