Dear Editor:
We were gratified to read David Conde’s April 20 column condemning the history of anti-Semitism and the examples we sometimes encounter even in contemporary America. As Mr. Conde noted, the Anti-Defamation League confronts anti-Semitism every day.
It’s really up to every one of us to speak out against any form of bigotry whenever we encounter it, whether it is based on religion, ethnicity, race, or sexual orientation. In fact, ADL’s mission is not just to fight against anti-Semitism, but “to secure justice and fair treatment to all.” We call out hateful rhetoric when it appears in the immigration debate, we fight for fair legislation like the recent ASSET bill for in-state tuition for undocumented students, and we work in Colorado schools with our “No Place for Hate” initiative to create inclusive, welcoming learning communities.
We urge all Coloradans to be vigilant when bigotry raises its head, whether it is hatred against Jews, Latinos, or any other group. Let’s all work together to make Colorado no place for hate!
