For many children going “back-to-school” shopping is the only highlight of going back to school. Many think the sentiment may differ for parents, but a recent survey actually showed 43 percent of most bonding occurs between parents and their children when they do participate in this ritualistic activity. The first day back in school outfit is often the goal of many shopping trips. What about a backpack or satchel? A lunch bag or water bottle?

JCPenney is full of savings during the fall season. Their online “shops” allow you to find already perfectly coordinated ensembles for the first day with bags and sweaters included. Choose from sporty glam to sports fan where you can find your favorite teams on jerseys, backpacks and lunchboxes.

From skinny jeans to flairs to tees for everyone, save 40-50 percent off. Some clothing starts as low as six dollars. During the hotter months find shorts, capris and the ever-popular leggings. When it cools down, find pants and sweaters with scarves and hoods often included. For more information visit www.jcpenney.com.

At Kmart, you can shop for back to school or for back to campus. Find great clothing buys and also the best décor for your dormitory this year. Find great savings on technology like Acer laptop computers as well as calculators and other school supplies. In the dorm room, get affordable kitchen appliances and dishes, bathroom accessories and bedding. Visit www.Kmart.com.

Macy’s is currently having a back to school sale where you can save 20-40 percent on girls and boys clothing. Sales also include 10 percent of shoes and free shipping online. Wear uniforms to your school? Check out the sales from khakis to belts and tights at www.macys.com.

Looking for a laptop or other device to guarantee success in your studies? Both Dell and Apple companies boast student discounts and perks for purchasing with them. Check out what you can save at www.dell.com and www.apple.com.

Need shoes for the whole family as they travel to work and school? Payless Shoes is having a buy one get one ½ off everything sale. Choose from pumps, flats, boots, tennis shoes, jewelry and bags. Shop your favorite designers and brands today. Follow the trends and seek wedges for summer and ankle boots for the fall. Visit www.payless.com.

Back-to-school preparation is not always in the form of clothing and accessories, however. Many students flock to barbershops and salons to get new fresh haircuts before they hit the books. Great Clips will save you time and money. Skip the wait and the lines with their smart phone app. Simply check in with your name, number and people in your party and get served when you walk in the door. For details visit www.greatclips.com.

Others realize they may need glasses or contacts to see the blackboard and do their best learning. Get in to make an eye appointment with your eye doctor. Find deals like getting two pairs of eyeglasses with a free exam at America’s Best Contacts and Glasses. Interested in contacts? Join their eye care club and pay a set price once and receive three years of eye exams, discounted lenses and 10 percent off replacements, glasses and accessories. Bring out your personality with dark frames, your favorite designers or colored contacts. For more details visit www.twopair.com and a location near you.

Getting necessities and luxuries for school doesn’t always have to be tedious, find the deals near you and start your school year out right.
