Join Thornton’s Fourth of July celebration on Independence Day at the Multipurpose Fields at 108th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. The field opens at 5 p.m. with food and drink vendors and traveling entertainment. Due to new park construction, all parking will be accessed off of 108th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. From 6-7 p.m. the Thornton Community Band plays, and at 8 p.m. the Longmont Symphony Orchestra kicks off a live concert featuring a patriotic play list from America’s top composers. Around 9:30 p.m., when darkness falls, the fiery fun begins with a nighttime patriotic parachute jump by Mile Hi Skydiving immediately followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
The Fourth of July is a day to salute our country and enjoy spectacular red-white-and blue fun in Gunnison, Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte, Colo. The merriment includes a firehouse pancake breakfast, one-third marathon (run, walk or crawl!), parade, great food, old-fashioned games, concerts, hot air balloon rally, and, of course, fireworks. You are invited to the first in a series of public open houses to share your ideas regarding developing the Confluence Park Master Plan. The City and County of Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department, with the support of regional, state and non-profit organizations, is leading an effort to develop a master plan for all areas of Confluence Park and the urban waterways of the South Platte River and the Cherry Creek. The goal of the Confluence Park Master Plan is to envision the future of this vital park while maintaining flood control functions, improving water quality, enhancing wildlife habitat, and providing world class recreation and trail experiences along the river.
