Back to school early

On Monday, July 9, Manual High School became the first DPS school to start this school year – seven weeks earlier than the rest of the district.

As an Innovation School, Manual High School has extended its school year to 210 days, with 25 of those days being allocated to off-campus experiences and learning excursions. Learning excursions scheduled throughout the school year will offer students opportunities to explore college campuses and take them throughout the state and country and help them live what they’ve learned. Student learning will become immediately relevant as they are able to “learn it and live it” through a series of planned grade level experiential trips that are tied to their core academic learning. Daily schedule will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Shooting of local pastor

Aurora Police are asking for the public’s help in solving a case of a shooting of a local pastor that occurred July 4.

Officers learned that the victim drove into the parking lot of an apartment complex and parked. Two suspects approached on foot and accosted the victim while he was seated in the vehicle. The victim was pulled out of the car and a fight ensued between him and the suspects. One of the suspects shot at the victim striking him in the leg.
