Aquila installed as archbishop
Samuel J. Aquila was installed archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Denver. Archbishop Aquila will serve as the eighth bishop, and fifth archbishop, since the diocese’s 125-year history.
A procession of more than 400 priests, including 40 bishops and one cardinal, began at 1:15 p.m. in anticipation of the 2 p.m. liturgy. During the ceremony, papal representative of the Apostolic Nuncio of the U.S., Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, read the official letter from Pope Benedict XVI appointing Archbishop Aquila.
