The Mighty Nice Band is scheduled to play at the 2012 Colorado State Fair in Pueblo at the legendary Amphitheatre from 6 p.m. until closing on Wednesday, Aug. 29. Mighty Nice will also perform at 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Taste of Colorado at the Heritage Stage at Denver Civic Center Park. For more information call 720-429-1555.

Juana Bordas will offer a keynote address and book signing at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), 4600 South Redwood Road Taylorsville, Utah, on Wednesday, Aug. 29. Her presentation is free and open to the public, and will take place from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the College’s Taylorsville Redwood Campus in the Student Center’s Oak Room. In addition to her address, Bordas will be signing copies of her book “Salsa, Soul, and Spirit.”

To honor the service of more than 38,000 Colorado Women Veterans, government agencies and nonprofit Women and Veteran organizations, have partnered to host the second Colorado Women Veterans Resource Fair on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24-25 at DoubleTree Hilton, 7801 East Orchard Road, Greenwood Village. The mission of the conference is to provide education, information and access to the many services and benefits available to Colorado Women Veterans. Regis University will host the Smithsonian Institution’s travelling exhibit called Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero Program, 1942-1964, the labor guest worker programs between the United States and Mexico, from Saturday, Aug. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 28 in the University’s Dayton Memorial Library. In addition to the exhibit, Regis University plans to sponsor three accompanying activities: a Bracero Program Oral History Project, Romero Troupe Theater and labor panel, and a labor history academic panel. The 2012 Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival will take place from Friday to Saturday Aug. 24-25 at Fairgrounds Park in downtown Loveland. The 2012 Old-Fashioned Corn Roast Festival includes a Friday night kick-off with entertainment, roasted and boiled corn for sale, live music and Loveland’s Got Talent Contest, beer garden, corn shucking contest, corn eating contest, parade and more. Colorado’s comic book community & Mother Mind Studios present, “Rise,” a benefit for those affected by the Aurora theater shooting. The benefit includes local bands, featuring Little Fyodor & Babushka, Mr. Pacman, Barstool Messiah, The Limbs, and Glass Homes, cosplay costume contest, photobooth and art exhibition. Paws for a Dip will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Thornton’s City Pool, 2141 E. 95th Ave., and allows friendly dogs to get in the water and swim to their hearts content. The fee is $5 per dog and one adult human companion, with $1 for each additional human. (Children ages 12 and under are free.) Proof of current pet vaccinations is required upon entry.
