St. Mary’s Academy senior Iris Cervantes Gutierrez boasts a range of awards and accomplishments. She holds a 3.38 GPA while also working part-time and participating in her community. She is bilingual and has enrolled in advanced placement classes, including AP Chemistry and AP Human Geography. She plays the violin in the school orchestra and is the president of the Latina Affinity Club, which is dedicated to embracing the Latina and Hispanic cultures within St. Mary’s Academy. Cervantes Gutierrez is also the vice president of the Tri-M Honor Society and the secretary of the French Honor Society. Since 2007, Cervantes Gutierrez has been the recipient of the Challenge Foundation Scholarship, awarded to academically driven students. She has applied and been accepted to Colorado State University, University of Northern Colorado, University of Denver and Augustana College. She has also applied to Whitman College, Santa Clara University, Oregon State University and New York University.

Cervantes Gutierrez boasts community service experience across the Denver metro area and the country. She has volunteered with the Youth Service Opportunities Project serving meals to the homeless throughout New York. Through her church youth group, Cervantes Gutierrez helped provide and package Christmas gifts for the homeless as well as families in need. She volunteers at Wyatt Academy as a teacher’s assistant. During summer, Ishevolunteer at the Habitat for Humanity at the ReStore.
