As a child growing up in northern New Mexico, Valentine’s Day was a day of cut out Valentine cards, exchanging candy or creating an original Valentine’s Day box to carry your treasures home, a time of innocence. Later in life it became about celebrating romance, and the positives in life.
As an adult Valentine’s Day has been kept alive and well. Both my husband and I are romantics and we celebrate the beauty of the day and have been doing so for over 45 years. No pretense, no fake emotions.
Clearly, romantics are alive and well in Denver as many shopped for that special box of chocolates, a bouquet of flowers, a dozen red roses, or a unique gift for their significant other, or the ultimate candlelit dinner shared with the one you love. Whether you’ve just met your true love or have been celebrating that love for the last half a century, it matters not, because on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, love is in the air.
As I got ready for work, my husband prepared a small breakfast of toast, scrambled eggs, orange slices, a few almonds and black coffee for me. I thanked my creator and my husband for another Valentine’s Day. Before I left for the day, my husband entered with a beautiful navy blue dress. Could I be any luckier? I thanked him and left for work where I discovered a dozen red rose arrangement. He never forgets!
We made our way to downtown Denver to the Aquarium Restaurant, located at 700 Water St., a venue I had never visited. Greeted by a romantic and heart-filled environment, a courteous staff and management, we were led to our beautifully set table for two. We enjoyed champagne, shared a meats and cheese appetizer, followed by a caprese salad for me and a lobster bisque for him. My choice of entrée, Boursin Stuffed Salmon (with artichokes, crabmeat), and Braised Lamb Shank for him. We finished off the incredible meal with a chocolate filled cannoli with berries accompanied by a cup of great coffee. Romantic music provided by a harpist filled the room as the delights of the Valentine’s Day menu was delivered to each table.
Valentine’s Day at The Aquarium Restaurant was a unique and fun-filled evening we expect to repeat. Not only does it offer celebrations for Valentine’s Day, but Easter, a breakfast with Santa and more are scheduled.
