Cuentos, ‘Stories’ of La Llorona at CHAC

The Chicano Humanities and Art Council (CHAC), 222 Santa Fe Drive, invites you to “Cuentos “Stories” of La Llorona” October 18th, 2019 at 7 p.m.

The legend of La Llorona dates back over five centuries in the American Southwest and Mexico. “Cuentos “Stories” of La Llorona” by master story-tellers Geraldina Lawson, Angel Vigil, Karen Gonzalez and by special permission of the family, the late Lalo Delgado. There will be a special showing of the Lalo Delgado poem “La Llorona”.

Geraladina Lawson grew up in Laredo, Texas and has been creating cuentos as long as she can remember. She started telling bilingual cuentos/stories professionally in the summer of 1989 as “Cuento de Lupe Loca”. She tells traditional Latino stories and creates her own.

Angel Vigil is a retired Chairman of the Fine and Performing Arts Department and Director of Drama at Colorado Academy in Denver. He is an award-winning author, performer, stage director and teacher. Vigil is the author of six award-winning books on Hispanic and Western culture and arts. Vigil is a Colorado Heritage Artist storyteller who has performed throughout the nation at festivals, universities, schools and art centers

Karen D. Gonzales is a native of Denver. She is the Denver Coordinator of Las Comadres & Friends National Latino Book Club. Karen is the author of two short stories published in 2018: “Finding the Lady Llorona” published in “The Almagre Review Issue 5: Race-Class-Gender” and “Random Acts of Kindness With a DREAMer” published in “These Are They.”

“Cuentos “Stories” of La Llorona” will also have face-painting from 5:30-6:30 and a La Llorona costume where the winner will receive a 1 year CHAC membership.
