Navigating the Jeppesen Terminal during the Great Hall Project

This week, Denver International Airport (DEN) is installing additional construction walls on Level 5 near the North Security Checkpoint as part of Phase 2 of the Great Hall Project. The construction walls will allow DEN to build the new security checkpoint in the northwest corner of Level 6. The new security checkpoint will include an improved and safer security screening experience.

The North Security Checkpoint will remain open for screening during construction, but travelers can expect some changes. Here is what passengers need to know (see attached map of closures):

All three checkpoints will remain open; however, the North Security Checkpoint will be reduced from 12 lanes to eight lanes.

At the North Security Checkpoint, TSA Pre✓™ and CLEAR services will remain available but will be relocated to the east side rather than the west side.

Passengers are encouraged to use the A-Bridge security checkpoint as it is often not as busy – especially for those flying internationally or on American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue and some United flights. The benefit of this is passengers can walk to their gate and skip the busy train to concourses.

The corridor that runs alongside the west side of the North Security Checkpoint will be closed including the escalator from Level 5 to Level 6.

World Wide Money Exchange has been temporarily closed until mid to late September when it will be relocated to the east side of Level 5 next to the Epic Mountain Express. Currency exchange is available on concourses A and B.

To save time, check the location of your airline prior to arriving at the airport to ensure you are dropped off at the correct location.

Construction walls are still up in the middle of the terminal on Level 5 and 6, so you must use the baggage claim corridor on level 5 to traverse from north to south.

All of Phase 2 work will be complete in mid-2024 with the new security checkpoint opening in early 2024, providing passengers with an improved security checkpoint experience. Phase 1 is on schedule for completion by the end of 2021 which will provide new ticketing areas for United and Southwest Airlines, provide four new restrooms, and increase the useable space in the center portion of the terminal by 31,000 square feet on Levels 5 and 6.

Hensel Phelps is the contractor for both phases of the Great Hall Project. Phase 1 is currently approximately $25 million under budget. Both phases will be completed within the original $770 million budget. Since DEN regained control of the project in November 2019, the project has met every major milestone on or ahead of schedule.
