Caryn Sanchez was born in California and her family moved to Berthoud when she was12 years old. Sanchez appeared in some commercials as a child and had a bit part in a Bill Cosby movie titled Hickey and Boggs. After high school she attended the University of Colorado as part of the English Honors major then transferred to the University of Southern California, where she majored in cinema in 1985. Sanchez held various production-related jobs for the next two years. At Cosby’s suggestion Sanchez enrolled at Loyola Law School and received a law degree in 1992. Following law school Sanchez worked on various film projects, then returned to Colorado and in 1998 she wrote and directed Passing Berthoud, a film about a coming of age Latina. In 1999 Sanchez produced the documentary, We were Chicanos, a film about the Chicano movement in Denver and the life and work of Richard T. Castro. The program aired on KMGH-TV Channel 7. Sanchez moved to California working on various projects. In 2005 Sanchez submitted a script titled Shelly Figg to the American Film Institute (Directing Workshop for Women) Only eight entries were selected out of 300 submissions. For the last 14 years Sanchez has been part of the production staff and affiliated with the Telluride Film Festival.. Sanchez enjoys mentoring youth who are interested in the film industry. She is single and enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and running.

Sanchez’ films and production projects are under the Sky Production label. Sanchez latest film, Shelly Figg is in post-production and scheduled for screening at the Harmony Gold Theatre in Hollywood this May.
