Profile

Delgado was born and raised in L.A. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennie, and moved to Denver in 1977. Delgado started working at Coors as a laborer and also attended Front Range Community College. He completed his education as an industrial mechanic and completed an apprenticeship program in 1983. In 1999 he opened Delgado Gym in Arvada and up until 2006, he managed the gym and worked at Coors. Today he manages the Delgado gym. Four of his five children are accomplished athletes. Roy, is a professional boxer; Valerie, four-time national Taekwondo champion; Nico, three-time national champion and ten times state champion; Elaine, ten-times state champion and three time national champion. Monica works with Delgado Promotions. Delgado adds, “My own kids come first.” Delgado manages rising boxing star Mike Alvarado who is scheduled to fight at the National Western Complex Arena on December 19th. When he is not at the gym, Delgado likes to spend time with his family. He has 11 grandchildren, and he belongs to the Bethel Church Congregation.

About Delgado Promotions

Founded in 1997, the gym offers classes in boxing, kickboxing, Taekwondo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Delgado works with at risk youth at no charge. He is also implementing a boxing program at Abraham Lincoln High School. Additionally, Delgado offers bible study on Sundays at 6 p.m.

High School Experience

Woodrow Wilson High was a predominant Latino school. Delgado adds, “I hung out with gangs to survive, but I learned there was a different world out there.” He moved to San Bernadino where his uncle’s family motivated him. He adds, “There was more to life than East L.A. Today, I can relate to kids in gangs and I can help them. I’m a mentor at Delgado’s Gym.”
