Don’t be fooled by the small and nestled feeling of Mexican grill, Pico de Gallo right off 38th street. The doors open to a quaint, simply decorated eatery with seating available for large or small groups of diners. Decorated booths line the walls and smaller tables scatter around the dining area. One can tell this is a local favorite, as many munched happily away at their food during the lunch rush.
The restaurant boasts the necessities of Mexican cuisine: quesadillas, chimichangas, chile rellenos, guacamole, and of course pico de gallo. Where it differs, however, is in its exquisite presentation of the dishes and the offerings of non-typical foods. Breaking away from the typical salsa and chips, one also receives a delectable cheese and bean dip and pico de gallo. Upon request, there is a specialty from Chihuahua made with jalapenos and tomatillo that is a house favorite. The salsa at this place however is nothing to ignore. The guacamole salad is also not to be reckoned with as it is the perfect blend of every ingredient and is simply mouth watering.
You’ve only just heard of the appetizers. The main courses are both delicious and served in very large portions for a great price. Unusual items adorn the menu such as the quesadilla sincronizada and the chimichanga gallo. Named after the institution, the chimichanga gallo was fried goodness wrapped around shredded beef and topped with chorizo, cheese and green chile. The chile is authentic and as it should be, you will need a few glasses of water with your order.
Apart from the excellent gastronomy that Pico de Gallo offers, the service is on point. Waiters are not only prompt and courteous, but will take the time to explain the origin or preparation of your meal.
