The Colombian Ambassador to the United States visited Denver last Thursday and Friday, Feb. 4-5 to help promote the Biennial of the Americas. The city of Denver will be hosting the Biennial of the Americas event, which sets out to promote and increase collaboration among countries along the Western Hemisphere, beginning this July and will continue every even-number year that follows.
La Voz: How has your experience been working with the Biennial of the Americas?
Barco: “It couldn’t be better it’s friendly and efficient. It’s just been wonderful.”
La Voz: What is your goal these next couple of days while you are here in Denver?
Barco: “My goal is to join the Biennial in celebrating this wonderful culture, the history we have together (and) the partnership.” (This year, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico celebrate their bicentennial.)
La Voz: How has your experience been since your appointment as Ambassador to the United States from Colombia in 2006?
Barco: “I’ve enjoyed it very much I feel very proud to be representing my country. I am delighted to do it here in the United States.”
“Now Colombia is a country that is safe again and working very well. Assuming a very responsible leadership position.”
La Voz: It’s not uncommon to watch a news program or read in the paper about negative things happening in Colombia. Do you think the media has it right or are there any clarifications about these assumptions that you would like to make?
Barco: “The truth is that there is such a large divide between the reality and the (assumption). Now a days if you look at statistics, Columbia is much safer than many cities even here in the United States.”
